Description:
Whitestown Police Department is a full time police force consisting of thirteen police officers under the Supervision of Chief Donald Wolanin.

The department patrols the streets of the Town of Whitestown 24 hours per day.

Many public safety events are held by the department each year. They also sponsor many child safety activities in conjunction with the school districts on an annual basis.


Individual certifications and specialties vary from officer to officer. Their expertise and certifications include accident reconstructionist, child safety seat officers,  junvenile aid officer, computer forensics, and Identifaction Technicians.  The department participated in 626 hours of training in 2009. 

The department handles all types of complaints, assists at motor vehicle accidents, enforces Vehicle and Traffic Laws, as well as ensuring all other aspects of public safety.

What are Town Police Department’s hours of operation?
The Whitestown Police department operates 24 hours a day; seven days a week. The primary patrol activity is the areas outside the villages of Oriskany, New York Mills, Whitesboro, and Yorkville.

Why are Town Police called to situations in the villages of Oriskany, New York Mills, Whitesboro, and Yorkville? Doesn’t each village have its own police department?
By geographic nature, the Town Police are sometimes called first because they are nearest available response unit. Yes, each village has its own police department, some with full-time coverage seven days a week; some with part-time coverage. In addition, with the inception of the 911 system in Oneida County, police agencies are polled for response. The 911 dispatchers have specific rules for providing necessary coverage for each call that includes dispatching town police to back up village departments.

How many complaints has the Town Police handled this year? 
In 2009, the Town Police Department has processed 2578 complaints and 191 motor vehicle accidents. The Whitestown Police Department has an excellent working relationship with all village departments, as well as the Oneida County Sheriff Department, and the New York State Police. Working in unison with these departments brings cases to conclusions.
